Shelters

The winter shelter has three volunteer opportunities for you to serve the homeless. The volunteers for the winter shelter are a vital part of saving the lives of the homeless during the cold, harsh winter months.  Volunteers may sign up on a weekly, bi-monthly or monthly basis.

Overnight volunteers are needed for the winter shelter (December 1 thru April 15).  Volunteer hours are from 8:45 p.m. to 7 a.m.  All volunteers will be with a King’s Harvest staff member.

Check-in volunteers are needed for the men and women’s shelter.

  • Check-in for Men’s shelter:  8:45 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.
  • Check-in for Women’s shelter:  7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Snack volunteers are needed to provide sandwiches for the homeless.  Hours are from 9:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.

The Program-based shelter is open form April 16th thru December 1st to provide assistance for those who are focusing on getting I.D.s, food cards, employment, or apartments.

Check-in volunteers are needed for the men and women/women with children shelters.

  • Check-in for Men’s Shelter: 7:45 to 9:15 p.m.
  • Check-in for Women’s Shelter: 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.

Family Shelter

King’s Harvest women and their children shelter opened late in the fall of 2011. We opened the shelter when we became aware of all the other shelters being full. There were women with their children sleeping in tents, cars and outside on the ground. With our harsh Iowa winters, we feared for their safety. We feel each mother and child is a gift from God. Through the wisdom of our many volunteers and staff, we provide comfort, shelter, guidance, and encouragement by showing them the love of Christ. Our goal is to help keep these weary moms and children safe and eventually into a home of their very own. Please pray about joining us and volunteering for this much needed service. To volunteer please fill out the volunteer application or call 563-570-4536 for more information.
